I have a feeling that may have been what caused my antivirus to go berserk. Which strangely isn't on the list of antiviruses that scanned the files in the Virustotal report. I am just curious as to why it never alerted me on my old PC and never attempted to quarentine the file even though I had the exact same antivirus installed. You have to wonder if its down to reputation or number of users, although we all know that OpenIV is a popular application. I use Symantec Antivirus and it reports a virus, yet there isn't one and my computer has never been damaged in any way. That said some viruses automatically execute on download to the host system, although OpenIV does not run unless executed. If the program is virus-ridden then simply format the stick. Download onto a memory stick and then scan. Originally posted by AntiqueGamer:You do have one option where you suspect a virus can be downloaded onto your computer. Seeing this report from Virustotal has me worried as well because I would normally bite for a 1/60 scan but this is a 3/60 report so I am worried if OpenIV does contain a nasty payload or something buried within it. to me.Ĭonsidering I had OpenIV previously installed on my old PC with the same exact antivirus and never had a warning or even an attempt to quarentine the file. I am aware of the fact that anything meant to modify game files can be detected as viruses as I had ran into a similar issue with NexusMods not too long ago.īut something about this one seems. I also tried to get into contact with a moderator of 5Mods to see what they had to say about the Virustotal report and they told me that the real thing I should be worried about is script mods because some of them can contain some REALLY nasty payloads.īut the moderator never answered my official question sooo. I was browsing around a forum earlier and someone did mention that it caused their PC to catch a Ramnit worm and had to factory reset their PC. Basically, Anything made to modify game files via script and so on, It will label as a virus. I get it with malwarebytes saying this software could harm your computer but it isn't, so i just added it to my extensions with nexus mod manager aswell. I really wanted to use OpenIV to remove the ambient sounds and maybe change some other things, but I don't want to put my PC at risk. Or is OpenIV really infected and not longer viable to download? Virus total reported that 3 antiviruses claimed it has Virus's. So, I went to Virustotal to run a scan of the site that is currently hosting the download for the actual file itself (the link provided on the actual OpenIV site) My antivirus went off like crazy and was reporting that even the hosting site was infected.Īt first I was confused because I've used OpenIV in the past on my old PC and I had the same exact antivirus and never got a warning to this degree. I downloaded and installed the Simple Zombies mod and the script loaders required for it.Īfter playing around I started to become annoyed by the immersion breaking city sounds of police sirens and car honks so I looked to good old OpenIV to see if I could replace the ambient city sounds with silent.
